Otto anni fa ci lasciava Simone Iacopelli

Sono passati otto anni da quando Simone ci ha lasciati, ma il suo ricordo continua ad essere presente nei compagni che lo hanno conosciuto e hanno avuto la fortuna di lavorare con lui. Simone, assieme a pochi altri, è stato uno dei compagni che più si è speso nel tentativo di rimettere a Partinico assieme i cocci di una vera sinistra, i cui contenuti si sono allontanati nel tempo.

Ho conosciuto Simone nel ’78, ai funerali per Peppino. Lo ricordo, poco dopo, all’atto dell’occupazione della Distilleria Bertolino, operazione condotta nel rispetto delle regole democratiche, che per contro comportò per lui il rogo della macchina e la perdita del posto di lavoro. Allora con il Collettivo Musicale Peppino Impastato, di cui facevo parte, organizzammo un piccolo concerto, con un’improvvisata cena di vino e sfincione per cercare di tirar su lo spirito già depresso dei lavoratori che vedevano agitarsi lo specchio del licenziamento.

Ne ricordo l’intensa attività nel comitato dei senza casa e senza lavoro, in via Girardi, dove c’era la sede di Democrazia Proletaria, la progettazione e l’occupazione delle case popolari ultimate e chiuse da più di un anno: un’operazione “militare”, condotta alle tre di notte, sotto la pioggia, perfettamente riuscita e purtroppo interrotta il giorno dopo, dal violento intervento delle forze dell’ordine. Da allora l’ho visto sempre attivo ad organizzare momenti di lotta, sia a livello politico-istituzionale, sia come presenza nel sociale, con tutti i suoi drammatici problemi. Con l’apertura della sede di Rifondazione Comunista, all’ex-arena Lo Baido, si è adoperato, assieme ad altri compagni a organizzare nella sede altre attività, come l’apertura di una biblioteca e quella di un Patronato per i bisogni dei lavoratori, oltre che la cura di un paio di aiole dell’ex arena, abbandonate al degrado. Una di queste aiuole è stata intestata a lui, per iniziativa dei compagni.

Di lui ricordo soprattutto una frase: “U sangu d’o cumpagni è sempri russu!!”. E non c’è dubbio, caro Simone, che il tuo era rosso vivo.

Salvo Vitale è stato un compagno di lotte di Peppino Impastato, con il quale ha condiviso un percorso politico e di impegno sociale che ha portato entrambi ad opporsi a Cosa Nostra, nella Cinisi governata da Tano Badalamenti, il boss legato alla Cupola guidata negli anni Settanta da Stefano Bontate.
