Cirino Catalano, “vittima innocente di mafia”. La famiglia chiede di intitolargli una via a Lentini
La battaglia della mamma Silvia Scammacca e del papà Concetto Catalano
Un caffè al bar, un pomeriggio apparentemente normale, in una regione, la Sicilia, macchiata dal sangue di troppi innocenti. E in una città, Lentini, ancora sconvolta per il devastante terremoto del 13 dicembre 1990. Cirino Catalano, ventitré anni, stava finendo di bere il suo caffè al bar Golden quando venne brutalmente assassinato.
Erano le 14:00 del 10 aprile 1991 e da allora la vita della famiglia Catalano è cambiata. Quel giorno “ha modificato in modo radicale la vita della nostra famiglia, mio marito Concetto nel vedere suo figlio Cirino di soli ventitré anni morto a terra, per la disperazione e il dolore, ha iniziato a sbattere la testa sull’asfalto e nella saracinesca del bar Golden”, dichiara all’Agi Silvia Scammacca, mamma di Cirino.
Quel giorno, oltre a Catalano, vennero uccisi anche il venticinquenne Salvatore Motta e il ventisettenne Salvatore Sambasile. Solo quest’ultimo, però, era la vittima designata dei killer: la verità è emersa ventinove anni dopo, dai racconti di un pentito. Gli altri due ragazzi, Catalano e Motta, si trovavano lì per caso.
“Mio marito Concetto con tanti sacrifici aveva comprato un negozio d’abbigliamento a Cirino, era riuscito a trasformare questo piccolo negozio in una boutique con grandi firme – continua Silvia Scammacca all’Agi -. Cirino insieme al papà con dedizione al lavoro portava avanti questo suo desiderio d’avere un negozio con grandi firme”.
I sogni di Cirino, del suo papà e di tutta la famiglia Catalano “furono uccisi barbaramente così come era stato ammazzato Cirino, in quel maledetto giorno. Oltre all’immane dolore della perdita di Cirino, che dopo trentadue anni la sofferenza è solamente aumentata – prosegue – la mia famiglia ha dovuto superare una grave crisi economica dovuta alla chiusura del negozio di Cirino, e per di più il mormorio molesto di alcune male lingue che dubitavano sull’estraneità di Cirino all’evento criminoso”.
Ma le dicerie hanno dovuto fare i conti con la verità, come spiega la mamma di Cirino all’Agi: “Nel febbraio del 2020 contattati dai carabinieri di Lentini abbiamo appreso dell’operazione Thor, nella quale due dei killer si autoaccusavano degli omicidi avvenuti nella strage del bar Golden a Lentini il 10 aprile 1991. Dalle loro dichiarazioni è venuto fuori che Cirino era stato ucciso per un tragico errore, che loro non conoscevano le vittime e quindi Cirino si è trovato nel posto sbagliato nel momento sbagliato”.
Nel processo, che si è concluso nell’ottobre del 2022, i giudici hanno scritto nero su bianco che Cirino è “una vittima innocente della mafia e della criminalità organizzata”. E adesso la famiglia chiede che il comune di Lentini intitoli una via a Catalano, ma anche di rimettere al suo posto la targa in memoria delle vittime di mafia lentinesi, per ben due volte distrutta e vandalizzata, come si apprende dall’Agi.
