Se n’è andata a 91 anni, Giovanna Giannola, sposata Provenzano, dopo avere trascorso gli ultimi otto mesi in una condizione drammatica di quasi totale immobilità. Alla scuola elementare Capitano Polizzi era conosciuta come “la maestra Wanda”, dal suo secondo nome ed era un punto di riferimento per docenti e alunni. Ha lasciato in tutti coloro che l’hanno conosciuta il ricordo e l’esempio di una vita dedita interamente al suo lavoro e alla crescita umana e culturale dei suoi alunni e delle sue alunne. Serietà, competenza, sensibilità e amore verso la cultura sono alcune ferme caratteristiche della sua personalità. Intere generazioni di bambini hanno ricevuto da lei i primi insegnamenti che poi hanno portato dietro per il resto della loro vita.
Per avere un’idea della competenza di questa maestra si pensi che Danilo Dolci le affidò la figlia Daniela e che alla fine del ciclo delle elementari la ringraziò con un mazzo di fiori e un suo libro autografato.
Un addio a questa persona che ha dato molto a Partinico e a cui Partinico deve molto.
